Two people charged after man injured in 'serious assault' in Hawick

A 38-year-old man has been taken to hospital for treatment to a head injury after police were called to reports of an assault in the centre of Hawick.

An ambulance was also summoned to the incident in the town's High Street around 9pm last night (Friday).

Two people have since been arrested and charged in connection with what police are describing as a "serious assault".

The 46-year old man and a 45-year-old woman are due to appear in court at a later date.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Police in the Scottish Borders responded to Hawick High Street at around 9pm on Friday (December 26th) following a serious assault on a 38-year-old man.

“The man was taken to Borders General Hospital for treatment to a head injury and his condition is not thought to be life-threatening.

“A 46-year old man and 45-year-old woman have been arrested and charged in connection within this incident and will appear in court at a later date.”
