Police probe early-morning fire in Galashiels after van found alight

An investigation has been launched after a van was found alight in Galashiels in the early hours of the morning.

Emergency services were called out to the incident - involving a Peugeot - in the town's Glendinning Terrace earlier today (Saturday), around 1am.

The fire was extinguised by the fire service, with no report of any injuries.

Police - who say they're treating it as "deliberate" - are now appealing to the public for information.

Detective Constable Carmichael, from Police Scotland, said: "Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances and we are asking anyone who saw anything before of afterwards to get in touch.

“We are also asking the public to check any private CCTV-footage they may have and let us know if something has been captured that could assist with our investigation.

“If you were driving in the area then please also check dash-cam footage to see if you have anything that might help.”
