A ten-year-old boy is in a critical condition in hospital following a three-vehicle crash on the A701 in the Scottish Borders.

He was a passenger in a white Seat Leon, which was involved in a collision with a black Audi Q5 and a red Jaguar F Pace.

Four other people were injured in the incident which happened between Broughton and Blyth Bridge at around 12.15pm on Friday.

The drivers of the Seat and Jaguar suffered “serious injuries”, according to police.

A teenage boy who was a passenger in the Seat and a woman who was a passenger in the Audi were also taken to hospital for treatment.

The road was closed for around seven hours to allow for inquiries to be carried out and the wreckage to be cleared.

Sergeant Grant Hastie, from Police Scotland, said: “I am appealing to anyone who witnessed the crash, or saw the vehicles prior, and has yet to speak to officers to come forward with any information that could assist with our investigation.

“I’d also ask that those driving in the area at the time with dash-cam footage review this to see if it has captured anything of significance.”

The force has asked anyone with information to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 1186 of October 16th.
