Berwickshire: A1 set to close for five nights for resurfacing
Last updated 28th May 2026
The A1 is set to close in Berwickshire for five nights for resurfacing.
Signed diversions will be in place between Cockburnspath and Ayton, via the A1107, next week.
Transport Scotland’s operating company BEAR Scotland will be managing the works, which are expected to add an additional 1.2 miles - or seven minutes - to journeys.
The cross-border route will be shut south of Penmanshiel from 7.30pm to 6am each night, starting on Tuesday, June 2nd, until Friday, June 5th; and again on Monday, June 8th.
All work is weather dependent and subject to postponement in the event of adverse conditions.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “These works will renew almost 700 metres of deteriorated carriageway, resulting in smoother and safer journeys for road users.
“We understand that road closures can be disruptive, so we’ve planned for these works to take place overnight to reduce their impact.
“We thank the local community for their patience while these essential improvements are completed.”
