Person dies following fatal collision into River Nene in Wellingborough
The driver of the car has been arrested by Northamptonshire Police
A person has died after the car they were travelling in went into the River Nene following a fatal collision in Wellingborough.
Northamptonshire Police were alerted to an incident taking place on the Embankment in the town at around 11:10pm on Friday (February 7th).
When responders arrived at the scene, they discovered that a silver Toyota Hilux had come off the road and gone into the river.
Emergency services were called to the scene to start a search and rescue mission, managing to pull the car from the river.
Both the driver and the passenger were taken to hospital following the crash, but despite their best efforts, emergency services were unable to save the passenger of the car, who died in hospital.
The driver of the car sustained minor injuries and was subsequently arrested by police on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
Currently, the circumstances surrounding the collision are unknown as investigations into the crash are ongoing.
Officers from Northamptonshire Police have since launched an appeal for information and witnesses, urging anyone with information to come forward as soon as possible.
Specifically, the force are looking for anyone who may have seen the collision or had seen the car travelling along the Embankment at the time of the crash to reach out.
