Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk signs new deal at Anfield
The skipper's contract was due to expire in the summer
After months of speculation about his future, Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has signed a new deal at Anfield.
It is believed the extension to his contract will keep him at the club until the summer of 2027.
The news follows on from star forward Mo Salah agreeing fresh terms with the club last week.
Speaking to the club's website, van Dijk said: "“I’m very happy, very proud".
“There are so many emotions obviously that go through my head right now speaking about it.
“It’s a proud feeling, it’s a feeling of joy. It’s just incredible.
"The journey I’ve had so far in my career, to be able to extend it with another two years at this club is amazing and I’m so happy.”
Questions remain over the future of defender Trent Alexander-Arnold, who has been linked with a move to Real Madrid on a free transfer.
The news comes ahead of Liverpool's game against Leicester in the Premier League on Sunday.
It is the earliest opportunity they could confirm a title win, if Arsenal lose to Ipswich, and the reds win at the King Power Stadium.
