A baby and two toddlers are all seriously injured in hospital after a crash involving a trailer and a pram in Dumfries.

Police were called to Pleasance Avenue at around 3:15pm on Monday October 13.

Officer say it involved a trailer which is believed to have become detached from a Mitsubishi Outlander car and struck a pram which was being pushed on the pavement.

Three children, aged 8 months, 14 months and 18-months-old, were taken to Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary before being taken to the Royal Children's Hospital in Glasgow.

Staff have confirmed all three are seriously injured.

The 18-year-old woman pushing the pram was taken to hospital for treatment and later discharged.

Sergeant David Kerr, of Police Scotland's Road Policing Unit, said: "Our enquiries into this incident are ongoing and we would urge anyone who have witnessed it to come forward.

"We would also be keen to speak to anyone who may have dashcam footage from the area."

It has been confirmed the children were in the care of Gracie Drew private nursery at the time of the incident, and that the young woman involved was a staff member.

A statement from the nursery says: "We are deeply shocked and saddened by the tragic accident involving three of our beloved children. Our hearts are with them and their families during this incredibly difficult time.

The safety and well-being of the children in our care is always our highest priority, and we are cooperating fully with the authorities as they investigate what happened."
