A young man has died after getting into difficulty in the sea at Camber Sands in East Sussex.

Emergency services were called out to the beach shortly before 7pm on Sunday (9 August) following reports three people were in trouble in the water.

A 16-year-old boy and a 24-year-old man, successfully exited the water.

An 18-year-old man was pulled from the water about half an hour later and pronounced deceased shortly thereafter despite lifesaving attempts by paramedics.

His next of kin have been informed.

The three individuals involved knew each other and had travelled together from London.

Authorities have stated that there are no suspicious circumstances, and the matter will now be handled by the coroner.
