Murder investigation after woman found dead at house in Birmingham

A murder investigation has been launched following the death of a woman found at a house in Birmingham.

Police attended an address in Markby Road, Winson Green, shortly before 1am on Monday.

The body of Irene Mbugua was found at the scene, and a post-mortem later revealed the 46-year-old died as a result of serious head and face injuries.

A man in his 30s has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody.

Enquiries are continuing but police say they are not looking for anyone else in connection with their investigation.

Irene’s family are being supported by specialist officers.

In a statement, they have paid tribute to her, saying: "It’s so sad that you got snatched from us in such a cruel manner. We are so lost without you and we pray for Grace to face each day mum, your beautiful smile and hearty laughter will be missed.

"Please just remind us on how to join the dots because we don’t have a map yet. Rest easy you remain in our hearts forever.”
