Man charged after boy, 8, fatally shot in Cumbria

A man from Cumbria has been charged with gross negligence manslaughter after an eight-year-old boy was fatally shot.

On 28th September 2024, Jay Cartmell was left with serious head injuries after a firearm was shot on a farm near Warcop.

The boy, from Frizington, Cumbria, was rushed to hospital by air ambulance but was later pronounced dead.

64-year-old Allan Thursby, of Dent Place, Cleator Moor, was arrested that same day.

He's now been charged with gross negligence manslaughter.

He's been bailed until his next court appearance at Carlisle Magistrates'.
