Police Scotland investigate single-car crash on A70 in West Lothian

Police want to hear from anyone who saw what happened.

A 26-year-old driver is in serious condition following a crash on the A70 near Harperrig Reservoir, West Lothian.

The accident occurred around 5.50pm on Friday when the driver’s white Seat Leon Cupra left the road and ended up in a field adjacent to the highway.

The driver was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh where hospital staff have described his condition as serious.

A 16-year-old male passenger was treated in hospital and later discharged.

No further injuries were reported, and no other vehicles were involved in the crash.

Police Scotland's Road Policing officers are appealing for anyone who witnessed the crash to provide information.

Constable Andrew Gillies said:

"Anyone who was in the area at the time and who saw what happened is urged to get in touch. I would also ask anyone who has dashcam footage of the incident or of the vehicle prior to the crash to contact Police Scotland on 101 quoting incident number 2651 of 12 June 2026."
