A section of Edinburgh's Princes Street has been locked down and a shop evacuated after a suspicious package was found

Emergency services raced to the scene just after 1 this afternoon

The capital's famous thoroughfare is closed between North Bridge and St Andrews St as experts investigate.

Police Scotland said: "Around 1pm on Saturday, 6 September, 2025, we received a report that suspicious package had been delivered to a commercial premises on Princes Street, Edinburgh.

"The building has been evacuated as a precaution.

"Scottish Fire and Rescue Service are also in attendance and the package is being examined.

"A cordon is in place.

"There are road closures in place along Princes Street between South St Andrews Street and North Bridge.

"Diversions are in place."
