Supporter dies after incident at Edinburgh Rugby match
A supporter has died after suffering a medical emergency at an Edinburgh Rugby match on Friday night.
The incident happened shortly before kick-off at Hive Stadium ahead of the club’s BKT United Rugby Championship match against Ulster.
In a statement, Edinburgh Rugby Managing Director Douglas Struth said first responders, emergency services and club staff worked to help the supporter throughout the first half.
Despite their efforts, the person died at the stadium shortly before half-time.
Mr Struth said the club’s “thoughts and deepest condolences” are with the supporter’s family and friends.
He also thanked emergency services, Ulster Rugby and supporters for their patience and understanding during the incident.
Fans in the Main Stand were asked to remain seated for a period during the first half so emergency services could access the concourse and attend to the situation.
The club has asked that the family’s privacy is respected.
