Six arrests made at Edinburgh's Hogmanay celebrations - including teenager 'caught with weapon'

Six people have been arrested following incidents at Edinburgh’s Hogmanay celebrations – including a teenager allegedly caught with a weapon.

The 17-year-old male was also arrested for claims of a hate crime.

Three men were arrested for minor public order offences, while another has been charged with flying a drone despite flight restrictions being in place.

A 37-year-old man was also arrested for an outstanding warrant.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said:

“A 17-year-old male youth was arrested on Frederick Street in connection with offences including a hate crime and possessing an offensive weapon.

“Three other men, aged 22, 26 and 42, were arrested for minor public order offences.

“One 37-year-old man for an outstanding warrant.

“A man was charged in connection with offences relating to flying a drone.”

The arrests came after around 55,000 revellers saw in the new year at the capital’s famous street party – with a stunning firework display above the castle.
