Several arrested after reported abduction in Longniddry

A number of people have been arrested in East Lothian following a report of an abduction.

Police Scotland confirmed officers are carrying out an investigation in Longniddry after the incident was reported on Thursday.

The A198 has been closed through the village between the junctions with Cunningham Court and Coal Road while enquiries are carried out.

Emergency services are currently at the scene and a diversion has been put in place.

Police are asking motorists to avoid the area while the investigation continues.

A Police Scotland statement said: “A number of people have been arrested in Longniddry in connection with a report of an abduction, which was received on Thursday, 13 August, 2026.

“The A198 is closed at Longniddry between the junctions for Cunningham Court and Coal Road in connection with this investigation.

“Emergency services are in attendance and enquiries are ongoing.

“A diversion is in place. Please avoid the area.”
