Police smash record £7m drugs factory in Fife
Officers found 5000 plants in cannabis cultivation in Kirkcaldy High Street
Police have smashed a massive drugs factory in Fife – finding a national record haul with a street value of £7million.
The enormous cannabis cultivation was discovered on Wednesday lunchtime in Kirkcaldy. It’s the second major seizure in the space of three years after £6.3million worth of plants were found in the same area.
Police say that at around 12.40pm, officers executed a warrant at an address at Nairn Campus in Kirkcaldy where around 5000 plants were recovered.
Enquiries are ongoing are there have been no arrests yet.
Yesterday, an illegal immigrant from Albania was jailed for three years three months for his role in the 2022 seizure – also in Kirkcaldy High Street.
Petrit Gjuraj, who’s 24, said he was forced to work there by a crime gang.
Sergeant Johny Lister said on the latest haul: “This is a very significant recovery and is an example of our efforts to disrupt the activity of illegal drugs in Scotland.
“Drugs cause misery in our communities.
"This recovery also underlines our commitment to the Serious Organised Crime Taskforce and the country's Serious Organised Crime Strategy.
“The public has an important role to play in helping Police Scotland target those responsible for the cultivation, supply and sale of illegal substances.
"Anyone with any information or concerns about drugs in their community can call Police Scotland on 101 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
