One person treated by paramedics after fire at Edinburgh block of flats

Roads have now been reopened after a fire broke out on the top floor of an Edinburgh block of flats on Monday morning, with one person treated by paramedics.

Emergency crews were called to Whitson Road in Balgreen just after 10.45am.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service sent three appliances and a number of additional resources to the scene.

Members of the public were asked to avoid the area, with surrounding roads closed.

In an update just before 2pm, a spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were alerted at 10.46am on Monday, May 4, to reports of a dwelling fire on Whitson Road, Edinburgh.

“Operations Control mobilised three fire appliances and a number of specialist resources to extinguish a fire affecting a top-floor flat.

“One casualty has been taken into the care of the Scottish Ambulance Service.

“Two appliances remain at the scene.”

Police Scotland issued the following update just before 4pm.

"Roads have reopened following a fire at a property in Edinburgh.

"Around 10.45am on Monday, 4 May, 2026, we were made aware of a fire at a block of flats on Whitson Road.

"Officers attended to assist Scottish Fire and Rescue Service. The fire was extinguished and there were no reports of any serious injuries. It is not being treated as suspicious.

"Members of the public are thanked for their patience."
