They are also investigating the movements of a blue BMW and a black Vauxhall Mokka which were seen on Harestanes Road at around 11.50am. Both vehicles have since been recovered and are undergoing forensic examination.
Detective Superintendent Michelle Findlay said: “We are continuing to offer Billy’s family support as the investigation progresses. They are understandably shocked and devastated by what has happened.
“It’s imperative to establish why he was killed and get answers for his family and friends.”
Police believe the murder was a targeted attack and say an increased police presence will remain in the area while enquiries continue.
Anyone with CCTV, doorbell or dashcam footage from the area around the time of the shooting is being asked to check whether they captured either vehicle.
