Man, 20, seriously assaulted at Edinburgh city centre bus stop

Detectives are appealing for information after a 20-year-old man was seriously assaulted at a bus stop in Edinburgh city centre.

Police were called to Nicholson Street at around 4.35pm on Friday following reports of an assault.

The suspect is said to have approached the victim before carrying out the attack, then making off towards Nicholson Square.

The man taken to hospital for treatment. His condition has not been described.

The suspect is described as white, of stocky build, around 6ft 2in tall and aged between 25 and 32. At the time, he was wearing a long black Nike coat, a black hoodie with the hood up, black trousers and dark-coloured shoes.

Detective Constable Gary Lipscombe said the incident left the victim with serious injuries and that extensive enquiries are ongoing.

He added that the area was busy at the time and urged anyone who witnessed the incident, or has not yet spoken to officers, to come forward.
