Man jailed for sexually assaulting two women a week apart on Glasgow-Edinburgh train
A man has been jailed after sexually assaulting two women on the same train route between Glasgow and Edinburgh just a week apart.
Mohammed Mirzai, 24, of no fixed address, was sentenced to 10 months in prison at Falkirk Sheriff Court on 9 April.
He had earlier admitted two counts of sexual assault and has also been placed on the sex offenders register for 10 years.
The court heard how Mirzai targeted a woman on a 9.45pm ScotRail service travelling from Glasgow to Edinburgh on 14 March 2025.
He sat next to her despite other seats being available and sexually assaulted her before getting off the train at Falkirk High railway station.
Members of the public who witnessed the incident took a photograph of Mirzai, which the victim later shared with British Transport Police.
Just over a week later, a second woman came forward to report she had also been assaulted by him on the same train route.
Mirzai was arrested on 17 July following a police investigation.
Detective Constable Liam Deasley said: “Mirzai is a dangerous predator who targeted lone women in a routine manner.
“There is absolutely no place for this kind of behaviour, and I commend the bravery of the victims for coming forward.”
Anyone who experiences or witnesses a sexual offence on the rail network is urged to report it to British Transport Police by texting 61016.
