Man jailed for hitting Edinburgh police officer with stolen car
A man has been jailed for three years and nine months for assaulting a police officer in Edinburgh.
Lewis Mackie, 23, struck the officer with a vehicle on Dumbryden Gardens on Friday, 6 December 2024. Police had attempted to stop the car after it was reported stolen.
The officer required hospital treatment following the incident.
Mackie was found guilty at the High Court in Edinburgh on 4 March. He was sentenced at the High Court in Inverness on Wednesday (today).
Detective Inspector Alan Sharp said the attack was “wholly unacceptable”.
He added: “Mackie’s actions resulted in an officer requiring hospital treatment. Such attacks on officers who are carrying out their duties are wholly unacceptable.
“Officers work to keep the public safe and any violence towards them will not be tolerated.
“We will continue to take action against anyone who harms officers while carrying out their duties.”
