Man, 66, dies after being airlifted from Edinburgh supermarket car park crash

A 66-year-old-man has died after he was hit by a car while walking through an Edinburgh supermarket car park.

The incident took place in the Tesco car park on Meadow Place Road, Corstorphine, at around 9am on Wednesday and involved a blue Volkswagen Polo.

The man was airlifted by a specialist ambulance helicopter for treatment, but died a short time later.

His family have been informed. There were no further injuries reported.

The area in the car park was closed while an investigation took place, but reopened at 1.20pm.

Police Scotland Sergeant Paul Ewing said: "Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the man who has died.

"Inquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of what occurred and I am appealing to anyone who has information to come forward.

"In addition, anyone with dashcam footage which may assist is asked to please contact us.

"Anyone with information should call 101, quoting incident number 0688 of February 18."
