A 24-year-old man has been convicted for his role in last year’s Bonfire Night violence in Edinburgh.

Jordan McMillan was found guilty at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Thursday of culpable and reckless conduct after providing fireworks to individuals who threw them at police and members of the public on Niddrie Mains Road on 5 November 2024.

The conviction includes an aggravator for attacking emergency workers under Section 44 of the Fireworks and Pyrotechnic Articles (Scotland) Act 2022.

McMillan was arrested as part of a major investigation into disorder that occurred between Halloween and Bonfire Night.

He will be sentenced on Monday, 14 July.

Chief Superintendent David Robertson, Divisional Commander for Edinburgh, welcomed the conviction, saying: “This should send a clear message that the reckless and dangerous behaviour we witnessed across Edinburgh last year will not be tolerated.

“Police officers and other emergency service workers do not come to work to be attacked, and the level of violence directed towards them during Halloween and Bonfire Night was wholly unacceptable."

He added that McMillan "did not act in isolation" and said further convictions related to the 2024 disorder are expected, as police continue to work with partners ahead of this year’s events.
