Man charged in connection with death in Alloa

Police are treating the death of a 40-year-old man as murder.

A murder investigation has been launched following the death of a man in Alloa on Thursday.

Police were called to a report of concern for an injured man at a property on Gartmorn Road in Sauchie at around 12:25am. 40-year-old William Devaney was pronounced dead at the scene and his death is being treated as murder.

A 26-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with his death, he is due to appear at Alloa Sheriff Court on Monday.

A statement from the victim's family has described him as: "a really nice person, so joyful, full of life and full of banter. Everybody loved him and he loved everybody. He will be sadly missed by all his family and friends and was loved by all".

Chief Inspector Garry Smith, the local area commander for Clackmannanshire, said: "Incidents like this in our community are shocking but rare".

"Our officers are continuing to work with colleagues from the Major Investigation Team and we will have an increased police presence in the area for public reassurance".
