Hibs progress as Dundee United crash out of Conference League qualifiers
Last updated 14th Aug 2025
Hibernian have progressed to the play-off round of Conference League qualifying but it was heartbreak for Dundee United who were knocked out.
David Gray's side held a 2-0 aggregate lead against FK Partizan from the first leg last week but surrendered that at Easter Road after two mistakes from goalkeeper Jordan Smith.
Scotland international Kieron Bowie scored a wondergoal to put the Hibees back ahead on aggregate.
The home side looked as if they could see things out when Nikola Simic was sent off for their opponents - but the game was forced to extra-time by Jovan Milosevic with virtually the last kick of the game.
Easter Road then erupted when Josh Mulligan's shot was parried into the path of Chris Cadden who scored in the 100th minute to put them back ahead and wrap up the tie.
They'll take on Polish side Legia Warsaw in the play-offs who drop down from the Europa League after being eliminated by AEK Larnaca.
Heartbreak for Dundee United
Dundee United took a first-half advantage against Rapid Vienna at Tannadice.
A Max Watters double saw them sit 4-2 up on aggregate against their opponents halfway through the second leg.
The Austrian side also managed to force extra-time after goals from Janis Antiste and Ercan Kara.
The match went all the way to penalties and Amar Fatah's first from the spot proved to be the costly one for Jim Goodwin's side.
Fatah's penalty struck the inside of the post and bounced out before the visitors scored all five of their spot kicks to take the victory.
