The police response to disorder outside Tynecastle Park following the Edinburgh Derby has been referred to the Police Investigations and Review Commissioner, after allegations of an “unprovoked attack” on Hibernian supporters.

The incident followed the 1-0 match against Hearts on October 4, when eight men aged between 18-40 were arrested and two police officers were injured.

"Disgraceful"

Hibs ultras Block Seven released video of some of the altercations to their social media, calling it an “unjustifiable attack”, and describing the police response as “disgraceful”.

Three teenage boys were also charged in connection with the incidents, enquiries into which Police Scotland say are ongoing, while the eight men arrested are expected to appear in court at a later date.

"Unjustifiable"

A spokesperson added: “The circumstances of the incident have been referred to the Police Investigations and Review Commissioner."

A spokesperson for Hibernian FC said they are aware of the issue, but it would be “inappropriate” to comment on a live investigation.
