Eight people have been arrested following disorder during FLY Festival at Princes Street Gardens in Edinburgh.

Police were deployed to the event on Saturday and Sunday, 12 and 13 September, when large numbers of youths allegedly attempted to breach the perimeter fencing.

Officers say there were reports of anti-social behaviour, vandalism and assaults, while drugs offences were also recorded.

Five males, aged 15, 17, 18 and 27, were arrested on Saturday for alleged offences including assault, breach of the peace and misuse of drugs.

A further four males, aged 12, 18, 18 and 20, were arrested on Sunday in connection with similar alleged offences.

Police say enquiries remain ongoing to identify others believed to have been involved.

Superintendent Neil Wilson said the majority of people attended the event “in good spirits”, but said others appeared intent on getting in without tickets.

He added that officers dealt with disorder and violence around the event, while people were also reported to have trespassed on the railway line and bus services were disrupted.

Police are appealing for anyone with footage or information which could assist their enquiries to come forward, quoting reference 1161 of Saturday, 12 September.
