A 47-year-old man has been taken to hospital with serious injuries after being struck by a car which was being chased by police.

The blue Vauxhall Corsa failed to stop on Newington Road when requested by officers shortly before 1pm yesterday (Wednesday).

That sparked a short pursuit before the vehicle collided with the pedestrian at the junction of Liberton Road and Gilmerton Road.

The Corsa continued south on Gilmerton Road following the hit-and-run and was later found abandoned a short distance away on Glenallan Drive.

Police are appealing for anyone with information to contact them.

Sergeant Grant Hastie said: “Our enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances and trace those responsible.

“I would urge anyone who witnessed the crash, or saw a blue Vauxhall Corsa in the area beforehand or afterwards, to come forward.

“We are also keen to speak to anyone with dash-cam or private CCTV footage that may assist our investigation.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 1486 of October 22nd, 2025.
