Sergeant John Irvine said officers are working to establish the full circumstances of what is being treated as a deliberate crash.

He said: “Our enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of this crash, and I would ask anyone in the area during the early hours of Wednesday who may have witnessed what happened to get in touch.

“Similarly, I would urge anyone with private CCTV, doorbell or dash-cam footage which may have captured the incident or the two vehicles, to please contact us.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident 0121 of 18 February.
