12-year-old girl targeted as police investigate string of Edinburgh pickpocket thefts
A 12-year-old girl has been targeted by pickpockets in Edinburgh city centre as police investigate a number of reported thefts.
The girl's bag and mobile phone were stolen near St James Quarter at around 5.50pm on Wednesday.
Later that evening, at around 11pm, a 30-year-old man reported his phone had been stolen from his pocket in the same area.
Police Scotland says officers are carrying out enquiries to trace those responsible and are appealing for information.
Inspector Stephen Quinn said: "Edinburgh is very busy at this time of year and pickpocketing is an issue we take extremely seriously. We would ask anyone who may have information on any of these incidents to please contact police.
"I would also ask the public to remain vigilant while visiting the city and to keep personal belongings safe. Purses, wallets, handbags, rucksacks and mobile phones can all be targets."
