Coldplay frontman Chris Martin performed at surprise duet with a busker in London’s Trafalgar Square over the weekend.
Busker Hanny Junee had just launched into a cover of Coldplay’s 2008 anthem ‘Viva La Vida’ on Friday night (18th September) when a man wearing sunglasses and a blue cap walked up and shared his mic.
Incredibly, Hanny didn’t realise it was Chris Martin, as he told the BBC: "I thought: 'This guy has amazing energy, nice vibe and a really good voice, he sounds really similar to Chris Martin.'
"But I thought: 'Come on, Hanny, don't be ridiculous, of course it's not him, Chris Martin doesn't roam the streets of London.' Then he finished a verse and the next thing I know he's gone. It was magical."
He continued: "Afterwards some people came up to me and told me it really was Chris Martin.
"It was amazing, it was like we connected purely through music, not fame."
Hanny later shared footage of the impromptu performance on Instagram, and wrote: “I was playing ‘Viva La Vida’ as my last song at Trafalgar Square, and Chris Martin literally walked up and sang with me?! Still can‘t believe this happened. Thank you Chris for the most unforgettable moment of my life!”
Onlooker Beatrice Tiritiello also shared footage of the special moment, and said: “I was in Trafalgar Square with my friends on Friday night when we stopped to watch an incredible street performer. He started singing Viva La Vida, and a few moments later, Chris Martin unexpectedly joined him.
“I happened to be filming the performance and still can’t believe I captured this moment and lived this experience.”
Back in August 2025, Chris Martin played an impromptu set at a pub in West Yorkshire.
