Troubles Victims urged to apply for compensation as deadline approaches
The Troubles Permanent Disablement Payment Scheme closes for applications at the end of August
With just weeks until the deadline, an Assembly Committee are issuing a final appeal for those eligible to apply for the payment scheme.
The Committee for the Executive Office is encouraging anyone with permanent physical or psychological injuries following a troubles-related incident to check if they qualify for compensation.
The Troubles Permanent Disablement Payment Scheme (TPDPS) was set up in 2021 and aims to acknowledge the serious harm the events caused to those living with permanent disabilities.
Alliance Party's Paula Bradshaw, Chair of the Executive Office Committee spoke to us about the importance of availing of this scheme.
"This represents the final opportunity for many individuals to receive both recognition and financial support".
"This is certainly not going to make up for the pain and injury that they've suffered in their lives".
Eligibility to the scheme managed by the Victims' Payments Board includes families impacted by permanent disablement or an application on behalf of someone who was injured but has since died.
"There's a lot of intergenerational trauma in our society, the individual was impacted but we also know that their loved ones, their family members around them will also have been".
"If you think you or someone close to you might be eligible, we would strongly encourage you to find out more and apply as soon as possible".
The applications close on the 30th of August 2026.
