SPFL open disciplinary investigation into Celtic v Hearts title decider
The SPFL has opened a disciplinary investigation into last Saturday’s William Hill Premiership title decider between Celtic and Hearts.
The Celtic Park showdown was marred by a pitch invasion after Callum Osmand scored to make it 3-1 to Celtic deep into stoppage time.
Several Celtic fans ran towards Hearts’ players, who were then ushered down the tunnel amid safety concerns.
With police investigations ongoing to establish if there was any criminality, the league’s governing body confirmed on Friday that the Celtic-Hearts clash is one of five matches from the closing days of the season being investigated under SPFL Rules H36 and H37. Matches between Inverness and Hamilton, Motherwell and Celtic, Hamilton and Clyde, and Stenhousemuir and Alloa are also the subject of SPFL investigations.
A statement read: “There is a continuing need for all stakeholders to work together to address the challenges of unacceptable conduct at matches, including pitch encroachments and pyrotechnic use.
“The SPFL has engaged fully in the Scottish Government’s consultation on football banning orders and awaits the next steps in that process.”
