Scotland Women’s National Team will create history today, as they take to the field in their first ever FIFA Women’s World Cup match.
With an opening group match against the ‘Auld Enemy’, England in Nice, 18,555 fans have travelled out to France to support their country.
It will be a familiar scenario for Scotland fans, having watched their team take on England in our first match at a major tournament, EURO 2017, where they lost 6-0.
Speaking ahead of her side’s opening match, Head Coach Shelley Kerr was in positive mood:
''The preparation has been really good and the players seem nice and relaxed. It’s been a long-time coming since we qualified in September. As a national team, want to do ourselves justice in this tournament – our very first World Cup. I think the biggest thing is, we’ve done remarkably well to get here, but we have set ourselves a target of getting out the group and we’re going to do everything we can to try and achieve that.
When we’re not zoned in, in the moment, talking tactics and training on the pitch, I want the players to enjoy the experience of being at a World Cup and they need to embrace every single moment''
First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has tweeted her support for the team.
The match at the Stade de Nice gets underway at 5pm.
