Scott McTominay is set to undergo heart surgery.
The Scotland midfielder is expected to miss the next international break with Napoli announcing he is in need of an operation.
The 29-year old will has been diagnosed with mild benign arrhythmia which is an irregular heartbeat that is not life-threatening and typically does not pose a serious threat to your health.
A minimally invasive procedure called a cardiac arrhythmia ablation will be used to correct the issue.
A club statement read: "Following the onset of a mild benign arrhythmia, Scott McTominay will undergo corrective surgery using a cardiac arrhythmia ablation (PFA) in the coming days.
"He will be available again after the international break."
McTominay is set to miss Sebastian Pocognoli's first four matches in charge that spread across a three week international break.
The first of those is away to Slovenia on September 26.
