Rangers 'closing in' on Russell Martin appointment

Rangers are 'closing in' on the appointment of Russell Martin as their new head coach, according to a report.

The former Southampton boss has been one of the frontrunners in the race alongside Davide Ancelotti.

Martin had a spell on loan at Ibrox in 2018 as a player and has also managed MK Dons and Swansea.

Reports now suggest he has beaten off competition from Ancelotti to take the spot in the Govan dugout next season.

Fabrizio Romano has posted on X that Martin has 'accepted the project' and is ready to take on the role.

The 39-year old led Southampton to promotion to the Premier League in his first season in charge at St Mary's.

He was unable to replicate that form in the top flight and was sacked in December with just one win from their 16 league matches.
