Croatian international full-back Josip Juranovic has left Celtic, signing a permanent deal with German Bundesliga side Union Berlin.

The 27-year-old had been heavily linked with a move away from the Scottish champions following a series of impressive displays for his country at the World Cup in Qatar.

Speaking after Saturday’s Scottish Cup victory over Greenock Morton Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou confirmed Juranovic had been given permission to speak to Union Berlin and was expected to move.

The Parkhead boss was full of praise for the defender’s contribution during his time at the club: “I think he leaves here as a fantastic player, someone who contributed to what was a really important season for us.

“I certainly wish him well, I hope he goes over there and kills it.”

Speaking after completing the transfer Juranovic told Union Berlin’s website: “"The transfer to Union fulfils my dream of being able to play in one of the best football leagues in the world. The Bundesliga is intense and robust, which suits my game,” said Juranovic on the move. "I'm looking forward to playing in front of the fans at the Alte Försterei soon. In Berlin, I want to improve even more and take the next step in my career."

Details of the transfer fee haven’t been confirmed, but it’s thought Celtic could receive up to £10million for Juranovic, including add-ons.

The Croatian joined the Hoops for around £2.5million in 2021 and made 53 appearances in all competitions.
