Craig Gordon announces retirement from football
Last updated 16th Jul 2026
Scotland and Hearts goalkeeper Craig Gordon has announced his retirement from professional football.
The 43-year old has taken the decision to step away from the game following the national side's exit from the World Cup this summer.
Gordon started his career at boyhood club Hearts where he would go on to have two spells and make over 300 appearances.
He started as the Jambos won the Scottish Cup final against Gretna in 2006.
A spell in the Premier League with Sunderland would follow before a series of knee injuries almost ended his career early.
The stopper fought back to fitness and secured a move to Celtic in 2014.
Gordon would go on to become their first choice goalkeeper during a trophy-laden spell at Parkhead.
He lifted five Scottish Premiership titles, two Scottish Cups and five League Cups.
The Scotland international was also voted SFWA Player of the Year three times - twice during his time at Hearts and once at Celtic.
Gordon was also a regular for his national side, earning 84 caps and being chosen for Steve Clarke's Euro 2020 and World Cup 2026 squads.
He finished his career by returning to Hearts for a six-year spell where he would help them return to the top flight and captain the team.
