The 19-year-old man who died after his car was crushed by a falling tree near Mauchline during Storm Éowyn on Friday has been named by police as Calum Carmichael, from the New Cumnock area.

Calum was in a blue Ford Focus when the incident happened on the B743.

He was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow for treatment, but died on Saturday.

Sergeant Chris McColm said: “Our thoughts remain with Calum’s family and friends at this very difficult time.”

Tributes are being paid to Callum online with Calum’s sister Emilie Carmichael writing: “I have lost my true best friend. Calum you truly were one in a million couldn’t have asked for a better brother or a better best friend.”

Calum’s brother Ally Hodge described him as: “the most loved and happiest man alive” who will leave behind: “a loving mum and dad, brothers, sisters, in-laws, nieces, nephews, grandmother and his girlfriend.”
