The city centre restaurant will close its doors on Monday 20 October.

Located in Tontine House, the American restaurant has been popular on Glasgow’s main shopping street for over three decades.

Glasgow City Council gave the green light to the owners (Royal London Asset Management) in July that they could alter the space inside into a retail venue, as the current use of the building was “underwhelming”.

The closure has only been confirmed today.

"We're disappointed to be leaving"

A spokesperson for TGIFridays said: “TGI Fridays can confirm that our Buchanan Street restaurant will close on 20th October following a decision by the landlord to bring our tenancy at the site to an end.

“This is not a decision we have taken voluntarily, and we are disappointed to be leaving Buchanan Street after many years of serving the Glasgow community.

“Our focus is on supporting our team and protecting as many jobs as possible.”

"Remain committed to investing in the brand"

“TGI Fridays continues to have a strong presence in Glasgow; with our Glasgow Fort, Silverburn and Braehead restaurants remaining fully open and welcoming guests as normal.”

They added: “We have a long and proud history in the UK and remain committed to investing in the brand, enhancing the guest experience and positioning TGI Fridays for long-term success and growth.”
