Multiple roads are closed in and around Glasgow due to "unsafe buildings" and structures, as Storm Eowyn continues to batter the country.

Scotland is in the midst of a rare red weather warning for wind, set to last until 5pm this evening.

Glasgow's Gallowgate - between Barrack Street and Kent Street - is currently closed to all traffic due to an "unsafe building".

Byres Road between Great Western Road and Loudon Terrace is currently closed to all traffic due to an unsafe building.

Crow Road southbound, between Southbrae Drive and Abbey Drive, is currently closed to all traffic due to fallen masonry.

Similarly, due to fallen masonry from a tenement building, Shettleston Road is closed between Chester Street and Etive Street.

Unsafe scaffolding on Union Street has left the area closed to both pedestrians and vehicles.

All of the aforementioned roads will remain closed until safety inspections can be carried out.

A gust of 100mph has been recorded at Drumalbin in South Lanarkshire in Scotland, the strongest gust so far today in the UK, the Met Office said.

20,000 Scottish Power customers across the centre and south of the country are without electricity due to Storm Eowyn.

The energy provider says fallen trees and debris have affected power lines across the region.

Several repair teams have mobilised across the area in order to restore power.

Scottish Power staff have braved high winds in order to undertake the repairs, and the company says it has contacted around 75,000 customers to inform them of a number of warm hubs for those without electricity.

The company has also arranged food vans and has offered hotels to customers in urgent need.
