The Ayrshire coast is being battered by the second named storm of the season, Storm Boelo.

Gusts along the coast there have reached hurricane force but it's flooding that's causing most disruption.

Local businesses have been left mopping up after water levels gutted shops and restaurants.

Toni Dawson runs Geraldo's on the Main Street and had to plead with emergency services for help.

She told us: "The tide was coming so fast, we couldn't possibly get anywhere near the shops.

Roads along the coast have been closed because of debris washed up in the storm.

"We had to wait some time literally just watching what was happening, totally helpless."

On the roads there, the A77 at Lendalfoot's been closed for more than 12 hours. There won’t be any ferry sailings for the rest of the day with CalMac, or with StenaLine between Cairnryan and Belfast before at least 6pm.
Ardrossan Port office will be closed from 3pm to ensure staff and customer safety with sailings cancelled for the rest of the day.

Volunteer lifeboat crews in Girvan were called out overnight, searching for a person reported in the water near Ayr.

Coastguards called off the search soon after launch, and the crew made it back to harbour safely.

Police Scotland is asking us to delay unnecessary journeys until conditions improve.

Transport Scotland's Danny Chalmers told us: "People need to bear in mind that Monday may not be quite back to normality. There will need to be extra time."

An Amber weather warning is in place until 9pm tonight.
