Refuweegee targeted by thieves in second robbery since December
The charity had three donated televisions stolen from its new office space on George Square
Three televisions donated to help refugees settle into their new homes in Scotland have been stolen from a Glasgow charity.
Refuweegee's office on George Square was targeted by thieves last Tuesday - the second robbery it has faced in as many months.
In a statement on social media, the charity wrote: “Last week (Tuesday 14th January, to be precise) on the second day of our team being in our new office on George Square, these three delights broke through two security doors and walked out 20 minutes later with three stolen televisions.
“This all happened between 12:15pm and 12:38pm (the security camera footage shows 15mins ahead). Broad daylight, busy street.
“The police have now said we can share the footage and if anyone recognises them you can get in touch with Police Scotland or us directly.
“We're still not done with the investigation from the break in before Christmas and now we're pulled away again from core activity to deal with another. If anyone can help with CCTV and security advice then please also reach out.”
Selina Hales, CEO of the charity, told Clyde 1 that the team were "frustrated and disappointed" by the incident.
She added: "They're not just stealing from us, they're stealing from our donors, but most importantly, they're stealing from the recently arrived community.
"People who really need those items to help settle and set up life in Scotland.
"Bizarrely, negative things like this do tend to affect our work in a positive way.
"What we actually see is the community come together - we're surrounded by kindness and messages of support."
Police Scotland has confirmed that "enquiries are ongoing".
A spokesperson said “Around 2pm on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, we received a report of a break-in to a premises on George Square, Glasgow.
“Entry was gained and three televisions taken."
