Police officers injured in Priesthill protest

Three police officers have been injured after objects, including eggs and bricks, were thrown at them by protesters in the Priesthill area of Glasgow.

The disturbance happened as a group of people was protesting outside a house on Priesthill Road on Sunday at around 6.55pm.

Officers attended and the occupants of the house were removed from the property.

Police Scotland said the crowd, some of whom had their faces covered, refused to disperse and became increasingly hostile towards officers.

Police said it was evident from their behaviour they were not there to protest peacefully.

Three police vehicles were also damaged, resulting in one no longer being available for use.

An investigation is now under way and extensive inquiries are ongoing to identify those who were involved in the disorder.

Local area commander Chief Inspector William Campbell said: “The disorder seen last night is unacceptable and I would like to reassure the local community that our investigation is continuing to identify those responsible and take the appropriate action.

“I am aware of online misinformation being circulated last night and I would urge the public to behave responsibly around social media, particularly with information being shared and the response to what is read or seen online.

“We continue to review online and video footage of the incident, and I would appeal to anyone who has any footage of the incident to pass it to officers.

“Additional officers are in the area and anyone with concerns can approach these officers.”
