Police arrest 45-year-old man in North East town following violent disturbances
Disorder linked to claims on social media
Police have come under attack with fireworks and flares in Buckie after reports of a crowd gathering outside a home in the town.
Police vehicles were also vandalised during the disturbance on the evening of Tuesday March 31st.
It follows reports on social media that a man convicted of having images of child sexual abuse was living in the town.
Chief Inspector Mike McKenzie confirmed that specialist officers arrived to assist with the situation, but would not confirm that they'd removed a man from a property."
He addressed the local community saying, "This is the third such incident in the area since the weekend but the first to descend into such violent disorder."
A 45-year-old man was arrested and charged in relation to the events, including possession of an offensive weapon.
He is due to appear at Aberdeen Sheriff Court on 2nd April.
Police are examining footage from the scene as part of ongoing enquiries to identify all involved.
Chief Inspector McKenzie assured the community of a continued police presence and joint efforts with partners to address their concerns.
