Plot to kill Glasgow gangster foiled
The hitman hired to carry out the crime pulled out at the last minute
A plot to kill a man in Glasgow has come to light after a hired hitman pulled out at the last minute.
James Richards was part of a gang trying to target Ryan Carvil, who they accused of being a "grass".
Prosecutor Lindsey Dalziel told the High Court in Glasgow: "Nisbet entered into discussions with no less than three potential hitmen, but it was agreement with James Richards which reached an advanced stage."
Richards and others were caught after encrypted messages linked them to the offence, and the 36-year-old now faces jail after pleading guilty to serious organised crime.
John Scullion KC, defending, told Richards' hearing: "In April 2020, he was in debt to those who supplied him with drugs.
"Having initially said he would do it (the shooting), he realised very quickly that it was something that he could not do.
"He began to raise issues with the plans made by others."
Lord Young deferred sentencing until next month in Edinburgh and remains in custody.
