Loch Lomond and the Trossachs is set to be home to 65 new houses, as the National Park Authority grants approval for a major development.

The 6.77 hectare area of land north of Gartness Road, Drymen, will be the site for 43 open market builds, and 22 affordable homes.

It will also see an extended public parking area added, new public toilets and recycling facilities, and landscaping, which the Authority says will bring biodiversity, access, and recreation opportunities for visitors and residents.

"Positive step forward"

Planning and Access Committee Chair Claire Chapman said: “The approval of this significant housing development on land that has been identified for housing for many years is a positive step forward for the local community and the wider area.

“This permission will deliver a multitude of benefits which extend beyond a much-needed boost to local housing availability.

“Permission for this application took into consideration local sensitivities and the need to deliver positive outcomes without placing pressure on local services, infrastructure, the surrounding landscape and biodiversity of the area.

65 houses are planned for the development

“This decision also reflects priorities identified by residents through their own Local Place Plan, demonstrating how community led planning can help to deliver positive placed-based change for people and nature in the National Park.”

The decision was made as the National Park Authority works towards piloting a new Local Development and Land Use Plan, which will be used between 2028-2038 to set out where development should or shouldn’t happen, and how land could be used, managed, and protected.
