Man jailed for punching partner in the face as she held tiny baby
Gary Rose will spend 20 months behind bars for repeatedly punching Chantelle Armstrong while she cared for the 2-month-old
A drunk who brutally assaulted his partner while she held a tiny baby in her arms has been jailed for 20 months.
Gary Rose, 27, turned on 24-year-old Chantelle Armstrong at their home in Glasgow's Broomhill on January 15, 2025.
Rose was enraged after she confronted him about his drinking.
He repeatedly punched Miss Armstrong who clung onto the two-month-old, who was in their care, during the attack.
Rose then took the boy from an injured Miss Armstrong who fled the property to safety.
Sentencing
He pleaded guilty at Glasgow Sheriff Court to assaulting Miss Armstrong to her injury.
Sheriff Andrew McIntyre ordered that Rose be under supervision for 10 months upon his release from prison.
A 12-month non-harassment order was also put in place restricting Rose's contact with Miss Armstrong.
The court previously heard that the pair had been in a relationship for one year at the time.
Prosecutor Jenny Reid said: "Miss Armstrong told him to get to his bed as he was drinking and trying to start an argument."
Rose initially left the property and returned three hours later when he continued to be "boisterous."
Trying to protect the child
Miss Reid added: "Miss Armstrong went to the bedroom with the young child.
"She had the baby in her arms when Rose started punching her to the face three or four times causing her nose to bleed.
"She still had the child in her arms, making sure that he was okay.
"Rose then took the baby from her arms and tried to put Miss Armstrong out."
Miss Armstrong went to the concierge for help and the police were contacted.
Officers found Rose with the baby in his arms at the property and he was arrested.
Miss Armstrong was stated to have bruises to her head and a bloody nose.
It was revealed that Rose has a previous conviction for an assault to severe injury and danger of life.
