Main jailed for third time after multiple attacks on pensioners
Abel Ghebrehiwret has already served two separate two-year sentences for robbing women aged 89 and 86
A man's been jailed again after knocking an elderly woman off her mobility scooter during a robbery in Glasgow.
Abel Ghebrehiwret, 30, preyed on 79-year-old Josephine Smith in Glasgow's Possilpark on July 21, 2026.
Glasgow Sheriff Court heard how Miss Smith uses a mobility scooter and had been to an ATM.
Prosecutor Gemma Barclay said: "Ghebrehiwret walked past her and turned back to watch Miss Smith lift the cash and put it in her shoulder bag."
Miss Smith returned home but was followed by Ghebrehiwret.
Miss Barclay said: "At this time, Ghebrehiwret approached her from behind and took her bag."
The attack caused Miss Smith to fall from her mobility scooter chair to the ground.
Ghebrehiwret made off with the bag but was chased by a witness.
Ghebrehiwret dropped the bag and all the contents were recovered.
He was later identified by CCTV and officers arrested him at his home.
Ghebrehiwret pleaded guilty to assault and robbery on Miss Smith.
The hearing was told that Ghebrehiwret has a string of previous convictions for assault and robbery.
Ghebrehiwret was jailed for two years in 2021 for mugging an 89-year-old woman.
He received another two-year sentence in 2025 for robbing a lone 86-year-old woman as she walked home from church.
