A man's been found guilty of killing a 35-year old male in a knife attack.

Derek Docherty stabbed Sean Dock at a flat in Renfrew on May 13 2023.

The 36 year-old later tried to stop police getting into the property. He also cleaned the knife used in the attack.

Mr Dock, 35, tragically never survived the blow.

Docherty had denied murder during a trial at the High Court in Glasgow.

He was today/yesterday found guilty of the lesser charge of culpable homicide.

After the verdict, prosecutor Scott McKenzie revealed Docherty already had a lengthy criminal record.

This included two previous high court convictions for aggravated assault.

He was also guilty of weapons charges and drug trafficking.

Docherty was awaiting sentence at the time for having a phone in prison when he attacked Mr Dock.

He had his remand in custody continued as Lord Mulholland adjourned for sentencing on November 20 in Edinburgh.

The judge told the killer: “You killed a man by stabbing him through the chest which is an unsurviable injury and he effectively bled to death in a short period of time.

“Given your criminal record and what you have been convicted of there will be a custodial sentence coming your way.”

Mr Dock was survived by his mother and brother.

Mr McKenzie said the mum had stated: “I feel hollow since the incident and I find it difficult to put the loss into words.”
